About this producer:.
The history of the La Gurgue vineyard is above all a history of independence. The plots of land surrounding it are those of the greatest growths of the Margaux appellation. Château Margaux itself coveted the vines of Château La Gurgue for a long time.
This extremely high-quality vineyard is therefore following its own destiny by resisting the desire of its prestigious neighbors to expand.
When the Merlaut family took over the vineyard of Château Ferrière in 1992, its technical facilities were in a poor state. The new owners decided to share the cellar of Château La Gurgue with Château Ferriere, which had been completely refurbished for the occasion a few years earlier.
From then on, Château La Gurgue benefited from the facilities of a third Classified Growth and the support and expertise of its team, which converted its vineyard to agroecology and obtained the organic certification in 2016 and biodynamic certification in 2018. These changes in viticultural and vinicultural practices have revealed the quality of this wine and the beauty of the parcels that make it up.
