About this producer:

The appellation of Givry is located at the center of the Côte Chalonnaise in the southern most region of Burgundy with the Maconnais to its South. It is famous for being the French King Henri IV's preferred wine in the 16th century. Not quite as high-brow as their neighbors in the Cote d’Or, but with the excellent, temperate climate, great terroir & exposure, these are beautiful wines that are very affordable by Burgundy standards! Long, warm summers & relatively dry fall months create an excellent growing season & harvest.

The estate of Domaine Masse in the hamlet of Barisey near Givry, was founded with 2 acres at the end of the 19th century by Claude Masse, great grandfather of current proprietor Fabrice Masse. Today, Fabrice along with his father have 25 acres. They recently finished a magnificent renovation of the old stone winery & caves to modernize the facilities.

The Masse vineyards sit at a ‘slightly increased altitude & with the moderate temperatures, it allows their wines to retain a certain freshness. Their Pinot Noir Vieilles Vignes, comes from their vineyards in Givry. In 2007, Fabrice Masse was awarded the trophy for the best young talent in Burgundy & since that time his wines have been excellent proof of this recognition. Too add to his “chapeau”, with the 2011 vintage, his Givry’s have been elevated to 1er Cru ranking!
